Description
Why they have such size and shape? The special shape of our technical springs is a result of many months of experiments and endurance tests. Our research aim was to determine the optimal ratio between the resolution and the efficiencyof distillation.
Our technical springs cannot be too large since it causes a great loss of resolution, but also increases distinctly the energy demand that is needed to complete wetting. However, they cannot be also too small since it can cause a strong decrease of a distillation column which results in flooding with the low heat capacity and a general decline in productivity.
A unique feature of the rings offered by our company is a free space between the coils thanks to which one can develop the liquid and gas interfacial area likewise decrease flow resistance. Another important aspect is the geometry and method of spring coiling. Improper selection of these parameters may cause a drop in resolution up to tens of percent!
Below we present the technical characteristic of the rings:
- material – acid-resistant stainless steel AISI 304
- specific weight – 880 g/dm3
- dimensions – 4,4 x 5,5 x 0,24 mm
- specific surface (p/v) – 1900 dm2/dm3
- free volume – 0,89
- maximumheat load – 115 W/cm2
- HETP – 1,6 mm
Over the years, acid resistant stainless steel (SS) has driven copper out of ratification industry. The advantages of steel are better chemical resistance and neutrality in aggressive environments. These features make this metal a perfect material that meets the requirements of the food industry.
Another important parameter, which is worth spending a few words, is the maximum heat load. It decides on heating powers on which the distillation column should work. In normal, domestic conditions total electrical equipment load does not exceed 4,000 watts. The same is true with the actual power of the popular gas-stools. Therefore, the rings that are offered by us are optimized for 1500-4000W span.
It is good to know that the packing of column works optimally when well-moistened. To achieve this one should lead to so–called column flooding. To initiate this phenomenon there is adequate power output required. The maximum heat load is a parameter that allows you to determine easily the appropriate capacity for our column. To do that, one is to multiply the cross sectional area value calculatedincm2.
Another important parameter is the HETP (Height Equivalent to the Theoretical Plate) that is the amount equivalent to the one theoretical plate. In the theory of rectification, it is assumed that the concept of theoretical plate is a part of the column, in which there is a single act of distillation (i.e., evaporation and condensation). This can also be likened to a simple distillation process carried out by using a boiler and radiator.
Please note that the accuracy of the separation of the liquid components depends on the number of such isolated acts of distillation. The more theoretical plates a column has, the better. For example, for a 15% solution of water and ethanol one needs about 6 simple distillations to reach the spirits of 93%. If we had to do this with the pot and the condenser, it would take a lot of time andenergy. Rectifying column packed with 6 theoretical plates allows to get the same thing in one process, instead of six.
The diagram below shows what height of popular packing coning do we need for our column to work with a resolution of 6 theoretical plates:
As can be seen, ceramic packing works poorly in the domestic column. Admittedly, in the high areas you can insert a column of 150 cm aspirator which allows to result is 10 shelves onceramics and spirits over 94%. However, it is poor quality – with a lot of pollution. The table next to the chart shows how the increasing concentration of ethanol from each of the subsequent act ofdistillation. Analyzing it, you come to the conclusion that the 23 shelves are sufficient to reach maximum concentration.
You should be aware of that the high concentration (high percentages) do not entirely transfers into purity. The yeast pitching (also called mash) is over 200 substances, that should be got rid of. Generally they can be divided into light fractions (aldehydes, acetone, ether) and heavy fractions (fuzle). .
Some of them, at a boiling temperature, form azeotropes close to ethanol and are very difficult to remove. Years of experience of researchers have shown that in order to obtain relatively pure alcoholcolumn must have at least 40 theoretical plates. But the truth is, that even if we were up to 100 plates, it still does not get perfect purity. There always remain traces of impurities counted in hundredthsor thousandths of one percent. Often they remain outside the scope of the average consumer taste odor. Just such nuances determine the quality of the best spirits.
These facts clearly show why the height of the shelf (HETP) is so important for small households, domestic columns, which have a small amount of mixture. For the column 100cm ceramics allows for only a few shelves. Using sponges (steel wool) move closer to the 30 shelves. And having the appropriate springs we are to obtain as much as 50-60 shelves. Only such a resolution allowspurification of the most resistant to the substances separately.

The chart below shows the most commonly used pipe diameters for a household column construction. In the particular boxes one can find the values that show how many springs one may need to swamp a meter tube and with how high heating power we have to use to make our column work optimally.
The figure below shows how one should arrange a packing in the column
Springs should be covered with a specially prepared substrate. A usage of screens, grids or grates, because for this purpose is strongly dissuaded since such support dramatically increases the flow resistance, create congestion which in turn causes that the column is unstable. To support the column packing the most appropriate wires made of thin stainless steel. It is also important to protect the distillation column from the top. It prevents accidental spilling of the springs. springs. Buying at this auction means that our clients get two specially prepared supports for free !!!
As you one see, the rings (technical springs) offered by our company were designed on the basis of our thorough theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Their shape and material, of which they are made, ensure the maximum achievement at household environment. They are simply the best currently known packing for small rectification columns. First inspirational information about them leaked from the Russian, or to be more specific the Soviet research institutes. They have been developed, inter alia, for the heavy water preparation.
Thanks to the Internet, information exchange, many discussions and invaluable work of the enthusiasts from Central and Eastern Europe, our technical springs have been adapted for the manufacture of high-grade purified alcohol. This technology constantly attempts to improve. Researchers are looking even better geometry, as well as optimal spring size for pipes diameters and power heating. With these springs, distillate obtained meets or exceeds the quality of alcohol produced in the vast, tens of meters high industrial columns. See for yourself. Order today.
